November to February is the best season — during winter, lakhs of migratory birds land at Mangalajodi and Nalabana Bird Sanctuary, and the pleasant weather makes boat safaris comfortable.

Satapada is about 50 km from Puri (~1.5 hours). Mangalajodi is around 70 km from Bhubaneswar (~1.5–2 hours) and 110 km from Puri.
